Environmental Certification of Schools and Educational Establishments

Environmental Certification of schools and educational establishments started in March 2004. Schools can apply for certification from the OKKA Foundation. Awarding a certificate is based on the Environmental Criteria for Schools and Educational Establishments. A school has to carry out also a self-assessment and draws up a self-assessment report. Furthermore, an independent external auditor must verify that the school fulfills the Environmental Criteria.

LIFE Envedu Project has ended

The LIFE Envedu Project, which was co-financed by the European Commission, has ended in November 2004. The Environmental Criteria for Schools and Educational Establishments, the certification system with its organisation and rules, the external auditing system with its guidelines and the self-assessment method with its tools were developed and produced in the Envedu Project. The Guide to Environmental Certification and EMAS Registration of Educational Establishments and the Auditor's Guide were published by the Project. The material and publications translated into English and Swedish can be found on this website. More information on the Envedu Project can be found on the project's website (www.hrakk.fi/envedu).

By the end of June 2007, environmental certificates has been awarded to 18 schools.
